Session 704 - Case Study: It's a New Facility! What Possibly Could Go Wrong? - Kristofer G. Anderson

IAQ & Energy 2019 Conference, Session 704: This case study looks at a medical laboratory that was designed and built into an existing building in 2010. It took 8 years, but the numerous issues have finally been corrected while the laboratory has been operating 24/7/365. The issues found are not necessarily unique to a laboratory and the lessons learned are easily transferable to other projects. The final phase of recommissioning the laboratory resulted in $124,000 in annual energy savings with improved thermal comfort throughout. Unfortunately, the cost to the customer has been enormous both in lost revenue, lost productivity, high energy consumption, and the cost of corrective measures. Attendees will learn the failures and remedies of issues such as redundancy in design, value engineering, thermostat placement and installation, snow entrainment, and pressurization.
